Miss August

Hello everyone
 
I’m Dunroamin K9 Rescue’s dog of the month …. Miss August!  I feel like a model!

My name is Gracie and I am an Akita girl of approximately 6 years old.  I was saved from a certain fate when I found myself in the dog pound and my owner didn’t look for me.
 
My carers at Dunroamin tell me what a pretty girl I am, that I have an air of superiority about me.  Whilst the other dogs are barking in the kennels, I sit here patiently watching families come and go, taking their new dog home.  I’m waiting for my special someone to come for me you see, I know it will happen one day even though I have already had to wait a while.
 
I am a good girl, I know my basic commands such as sit and paw, I take food very nicely and I walk very well on the lead.  I am sociable with other dogs and love to go and say hello to them.
 
Just because I’m a bigger dog it doesn’t mean that I take up lots of space, or that I need lots of exercise as Akitas tend to be quite a lazy breed by nature.  Although I am a calm girl, I do still enjoy a run in the enclosure at the kennels and a play.  Other good points of my being an Akita is that by nature we are very clean dogs and will preen just like cats, unless we are worried about something we tend not to bark and we loose our fluffy undercoats just twice a year so don’t moult all year round.
